Warham is a special place, an idyllic spot with beautiful views across the valley of the Stiffkey and towards Wighton in the south.

Warham has two churches (there were originally two parishes, St Mary’s and All Saints). Less known are the remains of two large manor houses (ask us where they are when you visit). One was owned by the Turner family, once major landowners in the area. 

Warham Camp is an Iron Age fort just outside the village on the way to Wighton. It is the best-preserved hill fort in Norfolk and so of real historical interest. It is also just a beautiful place, teeming with colour from wildflowers and butterflies in the summer, its still-sharp contours sparkling with frost on bright winter’s days.

On the other side of the village, perhaps less spectacular but no less romantic, is the burial mound at Fiddler’s Hill. Legend has it that the fiddle in question could be heard above ground while the fiddler and his dog explored a tunnel leading from Binham Abbey to Walsingham …until they reached the burial mound, and were never heard or seen again. 

Warham is situated in the centre of the stunning North Norfolk coast, tucked away just behind the coast road where you wouldn’t find us if you weren’t looking, a short walk from the salt marshes just east of Wells. We’re right on several well-known walking routes and just off the Peddars Way, so the Horseshoes is a natural place to stop for a refreshing pint or a hearty bite to eat. It’s also a great place to stay and from which to explore North Norfolk.
